I signed up for a race to get my arse in gear!

Here's what's been going on......... Lazy bones here (me) needs some motivation to really get training. I'm going to be turning 40 in November and I would like to be in super shape by then. I've realized that if I haven't signed up for a race, I tend to be a little lax when it comes to getting off my butt and hitting the trails.

Andrew and I have decided to spend July and August up here at the cottage......... So, I've had to find myself some races in closer proximity. Finding races is one thing, but signing up is quite another.

I figured that a 50 mile trail run would be rather difficult to complete with my current level of conditioning.

I really wanted to do the North County Trail Run in northern Michigan. My world crumbled when I found out the race was already full ( big pouty lip, lots of sighing, and boo-hooing went on for a good 30 minutes).

Andrew found another upper Michigan race being held the weekend before, but I wasn't really interested.............. UNTILL I found out that no women officially completed the 50 mile course last year.

Naturally I signed up for the Marquette Trail 50 . I'm soooooo pumped!

I understand that the course is even tougher this year, with the addition of two technical hill climbs, followed by equally challenging descents.

Must now scramble to put together some sort of 13 week training plan that will ease me back into running without killing myself. If you've got any advice or suggestions, I am all ears!!!!!

Gotta get training.

I am such a wuss that finding out no female hadn't finished the course would have totally wiped it from my mind. Good on you - courage and determination are your middle names. Better get training.

A little bit of crazy is essential when training for ultras. I've got lots to spare ;). Hee hee

Lots a luck on that one. I know I'm nowhere near that distance yet. Michigan races have been filling up quick lately. It's odd how much it's happening now just compared to a few years ago when you could walk up last second to pretty much any of them.

You said it! I can remember (not so many) years ago that the Maryian Marathon had so few people running it....... Now it's jam packed!!
