... that is because all of the people in my aquafit class are about 20 years older than I am!!!
I did my first class this past Wednesday. Even though I was the 'junior member' I found the class to be challenging enough to keep me going back for more. Each exercise is done according to one's fitness level, modifications can be made to make the particular exercise harder or easier.
I haven't been in a pool in years. I have absolutely no ego or preconceived notions of my abilities when it comes to anything water related. I had tremendous difficulties using the pool noodle, I couldn't keep it in place (under armpits) while doing certain exercises. It is a deep water class... noodles and flotation belts are supplied. After the class I asked the instructor what I could do. She said that the belt would probably be a better device for me.
I find that the whole "gym' experience is very intimidating (as I am not generally comfortable with strangers) but I am hell-bent on pushing past my awkwardness.
Change is good.
