The fourth of the "Snappy Retorts to 5 Common Heckles" was my favorite... my laugh-out-loud moment of the book.
You would also like Haruki Murakami, "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running," and Alan Sillitoe, "The Lonliness of the Long Distance Runner." I think "Lonliness" might still be out of print... I found a copy in a used bookstore in Galway after 2 years of looking, but maybe these days it would be easier to track down online...
