Mini vacation was good!!!

Here's me sporting a black fly bite!!

I did manage to do some weights and I even tried some running. I know I was going to take a break but I really wanted to try.... and it was only once. I used Dad's treadmill and used a pre-programed work out. It allowed me to do a lot of walking and some hills and a bit of slow running. It felt pretty good. Most of my vacation time was spent eating and drinking! I put on 5 pounds in as many days! My legs were not very happy today nearing the end of my 23 mile run.

Now for the training...... I was out the door by 8am. The first half of the run felt pretty good... it took about 3 miles to get my mojo on. It was going to be a warm day and I hoped to get my run done before the afternoon heat. I was at the 12 mile point and my legs were feeling much better than I had last week.
I saw a tandem recumbent bicycle and waved as the couple passed. What a funny looking bike:) A woman stopped me to tell me a story of how her son lost his wallet and if I could please look for it.... I did not find the wallet. I found it really hard to concentrate on looking for it. I kept drifting into my own "happy running place". I did try.... honest!

Made it to Rick and Tammy's house (feeling great) where they filled up my hydration vest with cold h20. I chatted with them for a good half an hour. Such nice people!!!! I then used the bathroom and was on my way. Rick recommended a different route and I took it. It's a dirt/ stone road that apparently isn't really used.... until I ran down it. I must mention that the road is only 1.5 lanes wide. If cars were passing one would have to veer partially off the road. I was passed by 1 tractor, 2 pickups, and 2 cars. One of which decided not to reduce his/her speed and pelted rocks at me as it went by. What a jack ass!!

I am not sure if it was because of the break, the stone road, or the mileage.... my legs started to hurt and I felt a couple of hot spots on the balls of my feet. I then started having a stitch and ended up having to walk the last 1/2 mile. My legs were grateful for the walking. I will have to do plenty of stretching and icing this evening!
